  • Tuition Assistance is available for children of Saint James members. At least one parent must be a regularly attending member of Saint James by June 1, prior to the start of fall classes for that school year.

    For K–12 Students:

    • Students must attend a Lutheran school certified by a recognized Lutheran education accreditation board in Minnesota.

    For College Students:

    • Students must be enrolled in a Lutheran college or seminary and demonstrate intent to pursue a career in church work—such as the preaching ministry, teaching in a Christian school, or another area of ministry.

Note: Families who join Saint James after June 1 may contact the church office to discuss possible exceptions.

  • The Saint James Education Committee oversees the distribution of tuition assistance funds.

Tuition assistance is awarded based on a formula set by the congregation, where X represents the total St. James’ tuition assistance for the school year:

    • Kindergarten: 25% of X

    • Elementary: 50% of X

    • High School: 50% of X

    • College: X + 50% of X

Amounts may vary slightly each year based on available funds and the number of eligible students.

    Families with multiple children:
If more than one child in a family receives tuition assistance, the Education Committee may adjust awards to help ensure support is distributed equitably among all children.

  • Once tuition assistance amounts are determined, funds are distributed directly to the schools—not to individual families.

    • In early fall, funds are sent to each participating school along with the names of the Saint James students receiving assistance.

    • Parents are notified in September of the amount sent to their child’s school on their behalf.

This process ensures that funds are applied directly toward tuition and used as intended to support Christian education.

  • Tuition Assistance at Saint James is made possible through the generosity and stewardship of our congregation. Funds are provided from three primary sources:

    1. Designated Donations
Members may contribute directly to Tuition Assistance by marking a gift on their weekly giving envelope.

    2. Annual Operating Budget
A portion of the church’s annual operating budget is set aside each year to support tuition assistance for families.

    3. Education Endowment Fund
Saint James maintains an endowment fund established in support of Christian education.
Each year, 75% of the fund’s earned interest is dedicated to Tuition Assistance.

  • Submit your request by June 30. Reminders are shared in the newsletter a few weeks before the deadline.
